Longitudinal Day Treatment & Coaching Program
Professional development is an evolutionary process that takes place over time. Our program at Acumen Institute is structured around this principle. During times of stress, the ability to maintain professionalism can become compromised. We specialize in cultivating clients’ sustained capacities for active awareness, discernment, resiliency, and professional conduct in the face of ever-changing external demands. Acumen Institute is dedicated to individualizing each client’s treatment and professional coaching process.
Difficulties we help people to overcome include:
- Professional boundary problems
- Sexual misconduct and workplace harassment
- Emotional distress and personality factors that result in disruptive behavior
- Psychological factors that complicate recovery from substance abuse/dependency
- Treatment of compulsive behavioral disorders
- Life stage and career phase transitions
Treatment at Acumen Institute is a three phase process:
- Phase I: Immersion and Redirection
- Phase II: Longitudinal Coaching and Follow-Up at Acumen Institute
- Phase III: Strengthening Awareness and Termination of Intensive Treatment
The Immersion Phase lasts for three weeks depending upon the nature of the professional's difficulties. Immersion involves a daily sequence of individual and small-group interventions on an outpatient basis (Monday-Friday, 9:00-4:30). Individuals are discharged from the Immersion Phase only after being deemed ready to return to work and a reentry plan is developed.
ssment, coaching, and evaluation of the client's professional activities. This phase is coordinated with the client's professional health program, local treaters, and collateral sources.
The final phase includes a two-day wrap-up consultation around the anniversary of the first phase of treatment to consolidate gains, reinforce awareness of distress, and to strengthen the client's remediation.
Treatment Philosophy
Within the Longitudinal Day Treatment program, we emphasize the components of professionalism and the maintenance of appropriate role functions and boundaries.
The Objectives of our program include:
- Identifying deficits in professionalism
- Recognizing personal development needs and goals to develop adaptive ways to meet needs
- Identifying personality attributes that previously led to self-defeating outcomes
- Monitoring response to psychiatric or medical interventions, if indicated
- Internalizing new leadership, self-regulation, boundary, and personal life skills
- Implementing new skills that promote a team-based work environment
- Developing a life-work plan tailored to the physician's needs, strengths and career context
